Usually not. Flexible partials use gum-coloured clasps rather than metal ones, and on a cast partial we place the clasps outside your smile line wherever the design allows. The teeth themselves are shade-matched to the ones you still have.

Give it a week or two. It feels bulky at first, speech can be slightly odd for a few days, and one or two sore spots are normal. Those are an easy adjustment — come back rather than putting up with them, and do not try to file it down yourself.

Start with soft food cut small, and chew on both sides so the denture is not levered off on one side. Most people are back to a normal diet within a couple of weeks. Very sticky and very hard foods stay the awkward ones.

Take it out and brush it over a basin of water with a soft brush and plain soap — not toothpaste, which is abrasive enough to scratch it. Clean your own teeth and gums separately, because the teeth holding the denture are the ones that pick up plaque fastest.

An implant is fixed, lasts longest and preserves the bone, but it needs surgery and months of healing. A partial denture is removable, needs no surgery and is ready in a couple of weeks. If you are deciding on time, the denture wins; if you are deciding on how it will feel in ten years, the implant does. We will say which we would choose in your case.
